Gus White - Strong at 64 y/o

They say sarcopenia is inevitable after 60.

I say: Challenge accepted.

At 64 years old, I’ve not only avoided losing muscle, I’ve built more of it. Without creatine. Without whey protein. And without spending a single day doing "chest day" or "back and biceps" routines.

My secret? It’s not a secret. It’s smart training, real food, and consistency. That’s it.

What I don’t do

Let’s start with what’s not part of my routine:

  • No bodybuilding-style muscle isolation.

  • No supplement stacks.

  • No machines.

  • No excuses.

I haven’t taken creatine in months. No protein powder. Not even a scoop.

And yet, my strength, muscle tone, and performance continue to improve.

What I do instead

I train CrossFit.That means full-body movements, functional strength, mobility, intensity, and constant variation.

I do:

  • Pull-ups, ring dips, strict HSPUs.

  • Rows, runs, box jumps, L-sits.

  • Dumbbells. Barbells. Bodyweight.

Every day, I challenge myself. I track my performance. I rest when needed—but I show up.

I don’t “train for size”—I train for capacity and longevity.

🥗 What fuels me

Here’s another piece of the puzzle: my diet.

I don’t follow a trendy protocol. I eat real, balanced meals. Homemade. Nutrient-dense. Fresh.

Thanks to my wife Miry (who is the true hero of this story), I’ve had years of consistent, healthy eating.

That, combined with training, is what keeps my body functioning at a high level.

No gimmicks. Just habits.

📈 The results

Over the past year, I’ve hit multiple PRs:

  • Faster rowing times

  • More reps on gymnastics benchmarks

  • Heavier lifts

  • Better L-sit holds

My recovery is solid. My energy is high. And I feel better than I did in my forties.

Most importantly, I’m still improving.

🧠 Final thoughts

This isn’t just about muscle.

It’s about mindset. It’s about rewriting the story that aging means decline.

Because strength isn’t reserved for the young, it’s for anyone willing to train with purpose.

I'm not done yet. And neither are you.

“You don’t need permission to get stronger. You need to start.”

Because it’s never too late to train with purpose. And legacy is built one rep at a time.
